Vista Group achieves record-breaking turnaround with Tangelo

Vista Group, a global leader in film industry software and data analytics, connects the film ecosystem from production and distribution to cinema management and audience engagement. As a dual-listed company on the NZX and ASX, Vista produces detailed interim, annual, and climate reports that demand accuracy, consistency, and a fast turnaround.

Before Tangelo, the reporting process felt like doing the same job multiple times — endless markups, PDF comparisons, and tight deadlines chasing last-minute changes.

After implementing Tangelo, Vista achieved a record-breaking turnaround on its interim report, delivered two weeks earlier than ever before, with far less effort and stress across both finance and marketing teams.

The challenge: doing the same work over and over

As Group Reporting Manager, Abigail Butchart has seen Vista’s reporting process from several angles — first as Group Accountant and now leading the reporting function.

“Before Tangelo, it felt like we were doing the whole thing several times over,” she explains.

Once the finance team sent their draft to marketing, the document would go through multiple rounds of typesetting, reviews, and revisions. “There’s so much time and so many meetings just to update small things.”

Each new set of markups meant juggling multiple PDFs, comparing changes across printed copies, and manually reconciling edits.

“We were often right up against deadlines, chasing changes through the document. Version control could get quite scary at that point.”

Why Tangelo stood out

The decision to try Tangelo came largely from word of mouth. Both Abigail and Vista’s CFO had peers who were already using the platform and spoke highly of it.

“You could see right off the bat that it would easily address the pain points we were having,” Abigail says. “It’s intuitive, and it didn’t add to our workload — if anything, it reduced it.”

Implementation: smooth, simple, and supported

Vista trialled Tangelo for its Interim Report, and the onboarding experience couldn’t have gone much smoother. Tangelo worked seamlessly with their existing files and required little adjustment to internal workflows.

“It was so easy to use,” Abigail says. “Even when we were changing things up from the previous year, it was intuitive, and we could make most of the changes ourselves. The implementation and support teams were fantastic — they listened to what we needed. They were so responsive, especially during the thick of reporting.”

Results: a record-breaking turnaround

The first report out of Tangelo set a new benchmark.

“We had a record-breaking turnaround on our Interim Report,” Abigail says. “We delivered a fully typeset report two weeks earlier than we ever have before.”

For a small finance team, that speed was a game-changer. “Even just having one source for the review and updates was huge. Making changes was super snappy, and the Excel linking is fantastic — knowing your data will show up correctly everywhere without transposition concerns? Huge!”

No more review meetings. No waiting on design updates. No manual PDF comparisons. “If we want to add something, we just put it in.”

The marketing team loves it too. Finance keeps control of its sections, while marketing can focus on the creative pages they actually want to work on. “It hasn’t just shifted the workload,” Abigail says. “It’s genuinely less effort for us, while lifting a massive piece of work off their plate too.”

Even the Board noticed. They now review clean, final layouts first time, without messy Word document drafts. “The version comparison was so useful for Board and CFO review,” she adds. “Something that used to take ages can now be done for the whole report in less than a minute.”

Looking ahead

Vista is now setting up its Annual Report and first Climate Report in Tangelo.

“As we get into these more complex documents, it’ll be great to pick out even more opportunities to use it,” Abigail says.
